Lee Robinson, the Vercel VP who has become one of the clearest explainers of the agent stack, has put his Stanford CS146S lecture online: an hour and twenty-two minutes on how always-on, proactive agents — the kind that do work while you are away, like xAI’s @Bot — actually work. The lecture’s chapter map reads like a syllabus for the next era of software: How we got here (2:35), What changed in the models (6:13), Inside an always-on agent (10:06), The harness (18:07), Context engineering (27:26), Where this is going (34:26).

The thesis is hiding in plain sight in that chapter order. The model gets six minutes; the harness and context engineering get thirty. An always-on agent is not a smarter model — it is a system with three parts: a heartbeat that wakes it up, a context store that remembers where things stand, and a harness of tools, checks, and retries that turns reasoning into action. The model is the engine; the agent is the car.

Why this matters now: the industry has spent two years arguing about which model is smartest, but the agents people are actually bookmarking — the Dreamwork job-application agent from Edition 15, Claude’s Dashboards, the @Bot assistant — win on continuity, not cleverness. They wake up, check the state of the world, do the next thing, and write everything back down. That is a context-engineering problem, and it is where the craft is moving: what the agent remembers, what it forgets, and how it verifies its own work before it wakes you.

Main learnings

The harness is the product. The scaffolding around the model — triggers, tools, retries, verification — is where reliability comes from.
Context engineering is the new prompt engineering. Managing what the agent remembers across sessions matters more than the phrasing of a single prompt.
Proactivity changes the interface. The UX shifts from “ask and wait” to “wake up to results” — a fundamentally different trust contract.

Practical takeaway
If you are building with agents, spend your budget on the harness and the context layer before you spend it on a bigger model. And if you are just using them: give your agent memory and a heartbeat, and check its work in the morning.

The CFO job has gone from accountant to banker to builder — and AI just forced the third act. In a16z’s new essay, Seema Amble lays out seven ways AI is rewriting the finance function, and the list reads like a preview of how AI rewrites every knowledge-work department: data is no longer the bottleneck, so monthly closes are becoming daily ones; a new role, the finance engineer, is emerging — proficient in Claude Code or Codex; teams are getting smaller and higher-leverage (the old 5%-of-headcount heuristic is heading toward 2%); and continuous planning is replacing annual budgets now that revenue is usage-based.

Two of the seven points deserve underlining. First, audit-trail controls become a product feature — but finance keeps the sign-off, which means compliance is a design input, not a review step. Second, finance is gaining a bigger mandate over compute spend, people-versus-software tradeoffs, and build-versus-buy decisions. The finance function stops being the department that counts the AI bill and becomes the department that decides the AI strategy. That is a promotion in everything but title.

AI compresses cadence. When data stops being the bottleneck, monthly rituals collapse into daily ones.
The “finance engineer” is the template. Every function is about to get its own builder-class hybrid role.
Smaller teams, bigger mandates. 5% of headcount heading to 2% — but with authority over compute and build-vs-buy.

Watch how finance teams reorganise around AI: whatever finance does this year, product and engineering will do next year. If your org still treats the CFO as the person who signs the AI invoice, you are one reorg behind.

In FY2026, 31 lakh Indians — 3.1 million people — chose to earn through Zomato and Blinkit as delivery partners. That is 57% more than the previous year. Deepinder Goyal’s post frames the number the way it deserves to be framed: not as headcount, but as people — students, entrepreneurs, dancers, and parents balancing work with their ambitions.

Two things are worth noticing. First, the scale: 3.1 million earners makes Zomato/Blinkit one of the largest private income-distribution machines in the country — a platform economy figure that belongs in the same conversation as the formal employment numbers. Second, the medium: Goyal announced it with a co-created song with Amit Trivedi celebrating delivery partners and their journeys — a 2:56 video that treats the rider network as a culture, not a cost centre. The comms strategy is the strategy: when your workforce is 31 lakh strong and growing 57% a year, employer brand is a growth lever.
